About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role We build and run the secure execution environment behind Claude's agentic capabilities. When Claude writes and runs code, browses the web, or uses a computer, that happens on infrastructure our team owns. We work at the intersection of systems engineering and security. The goal is to make untrusted code execution safe, fast, and reliable enough that product teams don't have to think about it. This is the layer between the model and the outside world, and it has to hold up at scale for every Anthropic product. We're hiring engineers who have experience building for containerized workloads and have a keen eye for building products used by millions of customers. What you'll do You'll independently scope complex, multi-month projects, drive cross-org alignment through ambiguous problem spaces, and make architectural decisions that shape how Anthropic builds and scales its products. You'll partner directly with research to productize cutting-edge capabilities, and will have lasting impact on the platform that hundreds of thousands of companies and internal/external engineers depend on every day. You might be a good fit if you: Have a minimum of 8 years of practical experience as a backend or platform engineer building scalable distributed systems, ideally operating at tech lead level or equivalent distributed systems, cloud-native products, developer tools, or external developer facing products Have strong fundamentals in service-oriented architectures, networking, and systems design, ideally having owned both the technical vision and execution of a foundational platform system end to end Are proficient in Python, Go, Rust, or similar systems languages Have experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure), container orchestration (Kubernetes), and/or multi-cloud networking Take full ownership of your work—from design through deployment and operations Can navigate ambiguity and make sound technical decisions independently, and have ideally operated in 0 to 1 and more mature team or company settings Take a product-focused approach to platform work and care about building solutions that are robust, scalable, and easy to us Deadline to apply: None. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Location Preference: Preference will be given to candidates based in NY, SEA, SF or the Bay Area given the current location of team. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $405,000 — $485,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team. Your safety matters to us. About the role Our mission on the Connectivity team is to make Claude the most connected AI. As agents take on more real-world work, we're taking a leading role in defining how they get access to external systems — safely, with the right permissions, and in ways enterprises can trust. We ship standards and services used by claude.ai, Claude Code, Cowork, and the API. We own the MCP proxy that routes every tool call and the OAuth and token management that keeps connections authenticated. We're also core contributors to the MCP spec — now an open standard under the Linux Foundation — and maintain the official Python and TypeScript SDKs. We're looking for experienced software engineers to join Connectivity. The team spans San Francisco and London, and you'll work closely with partner teams across Anthropic to deliver impact across all of our products. You'll work on problems where reliability and enterprise trust are critical. This means OAuth at scale, admin controls that let IT govern what agents can do, and proxy infrastructure that is reliable by default. What you'll do You'll design, build, and operate the core connectivity infrastructure behind external tool calls — the MCP proxy and the OAuth and token management systems that keep connections authenticated. You'll own reliability for infrastructure that other teams and external partners depend on, including SLOs, on-call, incident response, and postmortems. You'll build the admin controls and permission models that let enterprise IT govern what agents can do, and contribute to the MCP standard and its ecosystem, including the spec and the official Python and TypeScript SDKs. You'll turn ambiguous outcomes into shipped, scoped work, dogfooding what you build in the products that consume it. You'll independently scope complex, multi-month projects, drive cross-org alignment through ambiguous problem spaces, and make architectural decisions that shape how Anthropic builds and scales its products. You'll partner directly with research to productize cutting-edge capabilities, and will have lasting impact on the platform that hundreds of thousands of companies and internal/external engineers depend on every day. You might be a good fit if you: Experience as a backend or platform engineer Familiarity with using AI tools as part of the software development process Take a product-focused approach to platform work and care about building solutions that are robust, scalable, and easy to use Take full ownership of your work — from design through build, deployment, and operations, to iterating on and improving your product Can navigate ambiguity and make sound technical decisions independently, and have ideally operated in both 0 → 1 and more mature team or company settings Experience operating production distributed systems, with an understanding of what reliability, observability, and incident response require at scale Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build consensus across teams and time zones Deadline to apply: None. About the role Anthropic exists to ensure the world safely navigates the transition through transformative AI. That work is funded by commercial revenue — and every dollar of it runs through Billing Platform. We build and operate the infrastructure that turns product usage into revenue across everything Anthropic ships: Claude.ai , the Developer Platform, Claude Code, and whatever comes next. The faster we can price it, charge for it, and account for it correctly, the faster Anthropic can fund the mission. We’re looking for a software engineer to join Billing. Depending on where you land, you might be building the integration contracts product teams plug into so they can launch a paid SKU without becoming billing experts, automating the quote-to-cash lifecycle so enterprise deals don’t bottleneck on manual ops, or building the reconciliation and data foundations that keep every revenue number trustworthy at audit time. This is production-critical infrastructure where correctness is non-negotiable — a rounding error here is a revenue discrepancy somewhere else — and you’ll work closely with Finance, Product, Sales, and Accounting to build systems that scale with the business. What you’ll do Design and ship billing capabilities end to end — pricing primitives, payment flows, contract and entitlement models, revenue data pipelines — depending on the surface area you own. Build for correctness first. Billing data is financial data; you’ll develop the instincts for where idempotency, reconciliation, and audit trails matter and where they don’t. Own the interfaces. Whether it’s the billing API a product team integrates against or the revenue dataset Finance closes the books on, you’ll design contracts that hide the complexity and hold up under change. Make build-vs-buy calls. We lean heavily on third-party billing, payment, and tax platforms, and you’ll decide where to extend them and where to build our own primitives around them. Own the payments stack. Authorization rates and retry logic so a good card doesn’t silently decline, processing cost as a real number you drive down, automated dispute response, and fraud controls that stop bad actors without blocking real customers. Drive down the manual work. Enterprise contract amendments, pricing config changes, billing support escalations — a lot of it is still human-in-the-loop, and closing that gap is a direct line to scale. Operate what you ship. You’ll own SLOs on customer-facing flows, instrument the revenue pipeline so discrepancies surface before month-end close, and be on the hook when it pages. Partner across the company. Growth wants promotional mechanics, Sales wants quote flexibility, Finance wants GAAP-clean data, product teams want it yesterday — you’ll help thread that needle. You may be a good fit if you Have 8+ years building backend or platform systems in production, 3+ years leading large scale, complex projects or teams as an engineer or tech lead Have a track record of shipping in fast-moving environments where the requirements shift under you and you still land something correct and maintainable. Care about correctness and data integrity as first-class design concerns, not afterthoughts — and know how to build systems that are easy to reason about when money is on the line. Enjoy cross-functional work. Billing sits between Product, Finance, Sales, and Legal, and a lot of the job is translating between those worlds. Strong candidates may also have Built billing, payments, subscription, or fintech systems before — and know firsthand how a small pricing change ripples through the whole stack. Direct experience integrating or extending third-party billing and payment platforms, and opinions on where they fall short. Worked on revenue reconciliation, financial reporting pipelines, or systems that had to survive an audit. Experience with enterprise commerce — CPQ, quote-to-cash, contract management, or the operational side of B2B billing. Owned payments optimization in a self-serve or PLG environment — authorization rates, payment cost, fraud, chargebacks — and know what it takes to move those numbers without breaking the good customers. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. About the role Anthropic is investing $50 billion in American computing infrastructure, including datacenters custom-built for our workloads, and this role sits at the heart of that effort. As a Staff Engineer on the Datacenter Server Lifecycle team, you will own the end-to-end operational journey of every machine in our datacenters – from initial provisioning and deployment, steady-state operation, maintenance, and repair. This is greenfield work: you will help define the services, tooling, standards and processes that govern how we operate critical hardware at scale, powering frontier model development and serving. You will have the opportunity to define AI-native workflows for datacenter operations and to help drive innovations on efficiency, performance, and reliability. A distinguishing aspect of this role is its deep intersection with security. The machines in our datacenter handle some of the most sensitive workloads in AI – training frontier models and serving millions of users interacting with Claude. Ensuring that every machine in the fleet is trusted, attested, and operating with a verified chain of integrity from the hardware up is a core part of the job, not an afterthought. You will partner closely with our Infrastructure Security team to define and enforce trusted compute standards across the lifecycle, from secure provisioning through end-of-life handling. Key responsibilities Build automation to support datacenter fleets at scale. Define and own the end-to-end system lifecycle strategy – from provisioning and deployment through operation, maintenance, refresh, and decommissioning – and maintain automation and operational procedures for common lifecycle events (e.g., hardware failures, firmware upgrades, fleet rotations). Partner closely with Infrastructure Security to design and enforce trusted compute standards across the server lifecycle. Work closely with our Networking team to ensure end-to-end connectivity across all sites. Build and maintain tooling to track machine health, configuration, and operational status across the full datacenter fleet. Minimum qualifications Hands-on experience with server hardware, including rack deployment, cabling, troubleshooting, and understanding failure modes at scale. Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Rust, Go, or Java). Working knowledge of modern cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes and large scale cloud providers (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP). Ability to communicate clearly and build consensus with a wide range of stakeholders. Comfort navigating ambiguity and making progress on complex, cross-functional problems. Willingness to travel occasionally to datacenter sites across North America. Preferred qualifications 8+ years of experience in datacenter infrastructure management, or a closely related discipline. Hands-on experience with GPU or AI accelerator hardware (e.g., NVIDIA A100/H100, Google TPUs, or AWS Trainium) and an understanding of their operational demands. Familiarity with modern provisioning and OS tooling such as LinuxBoot and NixOS Experience building or contributing to datacenter automation or fleet management platforms. Experience building and deploying server operating system distributions across large server fleets. Background in large-scale capacity planning and hardware refresh strategy, ideally at a hyperscaler or large cloud provider. Experience with trusted compute and hardware security concepts such as secure boot, TPM, hardware attestation, and firmware verification — or a strong desire to develop deep expertise in this area. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. How we're different We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences. Come work with us! Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues. About the Role In case you hadn’t noticed, Anthropic is growing fast. Really, really fast. The People Products team exists to support Anthropic’s mission by defining the blueprint for AI at work. We help hire the best person in the world for every job, ensure manager effectiveness, ramp new hires successfully, and ensure that we apply first principles thinking in how we shape Anthropic’s culture through the tools we build. We cover the entire employee lifecycle from hiring to onboarding, teamwork, and promotions. You’ll work directly with Claude, with access to capabilities no external team has, on problems that are genuinely unsolved. You’ll move fast — prototype to production in days or weeks. We believe in cross-functional thinkers who can reason across product, design, and engineering. You’ll be given high autonomy, own your decisions, and ship constantly. If you’ve experienced the pain of bad people practices and want to be the person who fixes them at the most consequential AI company in the world, this is that job. Responsibilities Build full-stack end-to-end across the People Products portfolio. Design and implement AI-native workflows: build tools, evals, prompts, and products. You’ll help define what is possible in applied AI for people processes. Work directly with internal stakeholders — HR teams, recruiters, managers — to understand problems, gather feedback, and iterate quickly without waiting for requirements to be handed down. No gatekeeping, you are expected to talk to your customers. Make product and architecture decisions independently in a low-structure environment: knowing when to cut scope, when to ship, and when to ask for input. Contribute ideas for how the team works, what it builds, and where applied AI can have the most leverage in people workflows. You Might Be a Good Fit If You: Have 8+ years of relevant experience as a Fullstack or product engineer, with a track record of leading complex, multi-month projects or teams as a tech lead or equivalent Have shipped LLM-native features or applications. Derive joy from hard work and the act of creation. Are experienced enough to build big features independently, and make great architectural decisions along the way. Are self-sufficient end-to-end: you can go from idea to production without needing a designer, PM, or architect to unblock you. Move fast without cutting corners: you hold a high quality bar and know how to make smart tradeoffs under time pressure. Engage directly with users and criticism: you’re comfortable talking to internal customers, hearing hard feedback, and incorporating it quickly. Are genuinely mission-driven: you care about the intersection of AI and people practices, not just the technical puzzle. Are a collaborative, supportive teammate: you bring people along, communicate clearly about tradeoffs, and make the people around you better. Strong Candidates May Also Have: Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or prior experience building Claude or LLM integrations in production. Background at an AI-native company or in a product-focused 0->1 engineering environment. Experience with HR tech platforms such as Greenhouse, Workday, or Rippling.
