Figma is growing our team of passionate creatives and builders on a mission to make design accessible to all. Figma’s platform helps teams bring ideas to life—whether you're brainstorming, creating a prototype, translating designs into code, or iterating with AI. From idea to product, Figma empowers teams to streamline workflows, move faster, and work together in real time from anywhere in the world. If you're excited to shape the future of design and collaboration, join us! The Figma Research team is hiring a seasoned researcher to support Figma’s Agentic Experiences, and actively shape and execute research to drive scale, tap new opportunities, and ensure Figma continues pushing innovation in design and production tooling. Because Figma is used by so many of the leading software companies around the world, you will be uniquely positioned to advance the state of how product development works across the entire industry. This work sits at the center of one of the most consequential shifts in our industry: how designers and developers build software alongside AI. That means researching experiences where the output is nondeterministic and “did it work?” is a judgment call rather than a pass/fail, digging into questions about trust, verification, control, and how expectations change as what is possible changes. We are looking for someone energized by that ambiguity rather than waiting for it to resolve. The ideal candidate brings a deep passion for research and strategy, pushing the envelope with AI led experiences, and laddering key user needs to critical product decisions and broader business impact. Partnering with Product, Design, and Engineering, you will tackle our highest impact problems, influencing company strategy for both the short- and long-term. You will own your problem space end to end and you will be expected to bring a point of view on product decisions. This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States. What you'll do at Figma: Help Figma grow and innovate by delivering strategic research and recommendations and materially influencing the vision and strategy for Figma’s Agentic Experiences Partner closely with product leaders to identify opportunities, generate strategy, and define success Break down complex business challenges into clear research plans; own the end to end research process and leverage strong storytelling skills to deliver meaningful impact to Figma’s businesses Leverage your product mindset and storytelling chops to influence product roadmap Move fluidly between multi-quarter strategic direction and specific, in-the-weeds recommendations a designer or PM can act on next week Advocate for the role of Research as a strategic partner in the business process, and raise the craft bar around you through mentorship and the standards you set We’d love to hear from you if you have: 7+ years of experience in UX research or user insights at a high growth B2B SaaS company Direct experience conducting research on AI-powered products and features, including evaluating experiences where there is no single correct output and a point of view on how users build (or lose) trust in them over time A track record of owning significant research programs independently, including framing the question, choosing the approach, and driving the follow-through on product recommendations Expertise in utilizing a variety of research methodologies, including both qualitative and quantitative techniques, to address product challenges spanning from opportunity identification, concept testing, to feature iterations. Comfort with product telemetry and analytics: able to form a hypothesis from behavioral data and partner with data science as a peer rather than outsourcing the numbers Demonstrated success in identifying assumptions that underpin key challenges, prioritizing the most critical assumptions, and creating right sized research approaches to test those critical assumptions. A proven track record of gaining buy in from executive stakeholders and cross disciplinary partners, transcending mere research mechanics and findings to articulate a larger user story, and the “so what” to inspire action Ability to balance speed and rigor, pivot directions, seek out new perspectives, receive feedback, and seek solutions in creative ways. Ability to balance user research, strategy, business insights, team input, and intuition in decision-making processes While it’s not required, it’s an added plus if you also have: Experience researching design tooling, developer tools, creative software, or other products where the users are themselves building things 2+ years in product design, user centric product management, product development, and/or front end engineering Experience partnering with model or evaluation teams, and a view on how qualitative signal and offline evals inform one another A familiarity and depth of experience using Figma’s products At Figma, one of our values is Grow as you go. We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the points outlined in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles. Pay Transparency Disclosure Job level and actual compensation will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process (including skills and prior relevant experience, potential impact, and scope of role), market demands, and specific work location. Figma offers equity to employees, as well as a competitive package of additional benefits, including health, dental, and vision coverage; retirement benefits with company contributions; parental leave and reproductive or family planning support; mental health and wellness benefits; and paid time off. Figma provides paid sick leave, holidays, and other leave benefits in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, including the requirements of the Washington Minimum Wage Act and related regulations. Exempt employees are eligible for employer‑provided paid flexible PTO in addition to flexible paid sick leave. PTO is subject to manager approval. Additional benefits may include company recharge days, cell phone and home internet reimbursements, and a number of lifestyle spending accounts. If you're ever unsure about a communication, don't click any links—visit anthropic.com/careers directly for confirmed position openings. How we're different We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences. Come work with us! Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues. About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role Training and serving frontier AI models requires compute infrastructure at a scale and density that pushes past what conventional data center designs were built to handle. Anthropic’s Data Center team is responsible for delivering that physical infrastructure — partnering with build partners, equipment manufacturers, and vendors to stand up facilities that can reliably cool some of the largest accelerator clusters in the industry. As a Senior Data Center Mechanical Engineer based in the United States, you’ll lead the design direction and technical oversight of building mechanical systems — cooling, chilled-water distribution, liquid cooling, plumbing, and fire protection — across our rapidly expanding U.S. portfolio. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on driving and reviewing mechanical design from concept through detailed design and construction documentation produced by external engineering firms and development partners, ensuring every facility meets Anthropic’s standards for reliability, efficiency, and scalability. You’ll own the mechanical design direction from Basis of Design through construction and commissioning, serving as the primary technical interface between Anthropic’s internal teams and our external engineering and development partners. A central part of this role is speed-to-capacity through prefabrication and modular construction — modular cooling skids, prefabricated piping assemblies, and design for offsite manufacture that compress schedules and reduce onsite labor. You’ll bring deep familiarity with U.S. mechanical, plumbing, and fire codes and the local regulatory environment, and ensure the cooling architecture keeps pace with rapidly increasing rack densities and the shift toward direct-to-chip liquid cooling. Strong candidates will bring deep mission-critical mechanical design experience and the judgment to make sound trade-offs when the standard playbook doesn’t apply. Responsibilities Design direction & review Drive mechanical design concepts for data center cooling plants, chilled-water distribution, liquid cooling (direct-to-chip and CDUs), plumbing, and fire protection systems. Review and direct design drawings, specifications, and construction documentation produced by external engineering firms, ensuring alignment with Anthropic’s Basis of Design and owner requirements. Evaluate design submittals, shop drawings, and equipment selections; respond to RFIs with clear technical direction. Identify design conflicts and drive resolution across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines. Maintain and evolve Anthropic’s internal mechanical design standards and reference configurations. Prefabrication & modular delivery Drive Anthropic’s prefabricated and modular mechanical strategy — modular cooling skids, prefabricated piping and pump assemblies, and design for offsite manufacture and onsite assembly — to accelerate deployment and reduce onsite labor. Drive standardization of modular mechanical designs across sites while preserving flexibility for site-specific constraints and evolving hardware generations. External partner & vendor coordination Serve as the primary mechanical engineering point of contact for external developers, design engineers, and construction partners across the U.S. portfolio. Develop scopes of work, equipment specifications, and bid packages for mechanical infrastructure. Perform technical due diligence on third-party and colocation facilities, evaluating mechanical designs against program requirements and redundancy targets. Coordinate with equipment vendors and manufacturers on cooling system procurement, including chillers, CDUs, pumps, and piping assemblies, and partner with supply chain to mitigate lead-time and single-source risk. Construction & commissioning Monitor mechanical system installation for compliance with design intent, applicable U.S. codes and standards, and industry best practice. Conduct site visits to review progress, resolve field issues, and validate construction quality; travel to sites across the region as needed. Support testing and commissioning of mechanical systems; analyze data and troubleshoot issues against design intent. You may be a good fit if you Have 10+ years of experience designing building mechanical systems for data centers or mission-critical facilities, across the project lifecycle from concept design through construction, commissioning, and handover. Have deep familiarity with U.S. mechanical, plumbing, and fire codes and standards — including the International Mechanical Code (IMC), International Plumbing Code (IPC), International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), International Building Code (IBC), NFPA 13 (automatic sprinkler systems), ASME B31 piping codes, and applicable state and local amendments, alongside ASHRAE guidance (incl. TC 9.9). Have strong knowledge of chilled-water systems, air-cooled cooling plants, liquid cooling (direct-to-chip and CDUs), and redundant piping configurations. Have hands-on experience with prefabricated and modular mechanical infrastructure — modular cooling skids, prefabricated piping assemblies, and design for offsite manufacture. Have experience driving and reviewing mechanical design work produced by external engineering consultants, and are proficient reading and marking up construction drawings, P&IDs, and single-line diagrams. Hold a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; a Professional Engineer (PE) license (or eligibility) is valued but not required. Communicate clearly and can drive technical decisions across internal teams and external partners, and are results-oriented with a bias toward practical solutions. Are able to travel up to ~30% to data center sites across the region. Strong candidates may also have 15+ years of experience designing building mechanical systems for data centers or mission-critical facilities. Direct project experience delivering data centers in multiple U.S. markets (e.g., Virginia, Ohio, Texas, Arizona, Oregon). Experience with thermal-hydraulic modeling software (AFT Fathom, Cadence 6SigmaET, ANSYS, or similar), CFD modeling, and energy analysis. Familiarity with controls/BAS systems and sequences of operation for cooling plants. Experience preparing SOWs, facility audits, and TCO analyses. A track record building modular prefabricated products in mechanical or electrical areas of the data center, and driving designs toward offsite manufacturing. Proficiency with Revit MEP or AutoCAD MEP. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team. Your safety matters to us. To protect yourself from potential scams, remember that Anthropic recruiters only contact you from @anthropic.com email addresses. In some cases, we may partner with vetted recruiting agencies who will identify themselves as working on behalf of Anthropic. Be cautious of emails from other domains.
